Physical Education

The purpose of the Physical Education (PE) program at Dunsborough Primary School is to develop the fundamental movement skills and physical abilities of our student community, setting them up with the confidence to ‘choose to move’ throughout their lifetime.

In close alignment with the new WA Curriculum, our program is planned and assessed against three strands:

  • Movement Skills (FMS)
  • Understanding movement (game-based skills and tactics)
  • Interpersonal skills (health concepts linked to exercise)

PE at Dunsborough PS is delivered through an extensive range of sports and activities, many designed specifically for our context. The country club trails and fairways host our annual cross-country, in-term swimming lessons are taught in the safety of Geographe Bay ocean enclosure and our annual Year 3 Ride by the Sea utilises the coastal bike path just a short distance from the school.

Using the world class teaching resource KIDDO, we ensure there is a consistent approach to teaching FMS across the school from early childhood. These skills are extended in the middle and upper school with a game sense approach to developing game skills and tactics.

To further develop our students’ physical literacy, we offer a diverse program of extracurricular activities offered before school, during break times, Sporting School funded programs and a vibrant senior sport program.

With a daily whole school morning fitness, every student in Dunsborough PS attains at least 2 hours of physical activity each week, in line with the recommended Department of Education guidelines.

In addition to developing physical and game-based skills, the PE program actively promotes the You Can Do It! Principles, supporting our whole school approach to social and emotional learning as well as positive behavioural management.
