Languages

At Dunsborough Primary School, Japanese is delivered as part of the Languages program and is a vibrant and engaging learning area that encourages students to explore a new language while developing an understanding of the culture, traditions and everyday life of Japan.

Students in Years 3–6 participate in a 60-minute lesson each week, where they build skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. This includes learning Hiragana, Katakana and introductory Kanji. Through games, songs, technology and hands-on activities, students develop confidence in using Japanese in ways that are both enjoyable and meaningful.

Cultural learning is an integral part of the program. Students engage in experiences such as origami, calligraphy, and learning about festivals and cultural traditions.

Aligned with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, our Languages program fosters curiosity, strengthens communication skills, and builds intercultural understanding.
