Visual Arts

Dunsborough Primary School offers a vibrant and engaging Visual Arts program that inspires creativity and confidence in every student. Guided by the Western Australian Curriculum, students develop a broad range of skills and techniques whilst working with interesting and varied art materials.

In our well-equipped art room, students explore idea development, observational drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, construction, and sculpture. In addition, every year group from Year 1 to Year 6 has the opportunity to create artworks from clay, which are fired in our on-site kiln – an experience that students look forward to each year.

As you walk around the school, you’ll discover a collection of beautiful permanent art installations created by students and staff over time. A standout example is our Meeka mural, located at the main carpark entrance. This striking ceramic mural showcases our clay program and reflects our connection to Country, local wildlife, and Noongar Wadandi culture.

Each year, we proudly exhibit hundreds of student artworks at our Arts Expo, a much-loved community event held at the school. This celebration highlights the creativity and talent of our students while bringing families and the wider community together through art.

We also participate annually in the local Sculpture by the Bay exhibition at the Dunsborough foreshore over the March long weekend. In 2026, our school was honoured to receive the Children’s Choice Award for our collaborative textile installation, Out with the Tide, In with the New. This piece featured five suspended jellyfish woven from recycled materials, encouraging reflection on sustainability and the impact of overconsumption.

Through these rich and varied experiences, our Visual Arts program fosters imagination, skill development, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
